Resumo: The present investigation focuses on a study about teachers ´motivation during their career and about their main worries at the beginning of it. It is based on the principle that motivation influences in several ways professional performance. The objectives that have led this investigation are not only understanding motivation as a mean to choose this professional career, but also assessing the influence of supervision on initial traineeship. This study is based on seven experiences of teachers at the beginning of their career teaching in the Algarve in twothousandandfive and twothousandandsix. The study was made only with primary teachers. Given the nature and the object of this study we chose the case study as the more adequate method for its development; and we developed a mixed approach where we focused the qualitative – interpretative method. The results of the study show several motivational factors in entering on this career, identify some influences of the supervision process teachers had at the beginning of their traineeship, as well as different implications throughout the first years of teaching.
