In other words, it is not reference but interactional accomplishment through rhetorically powerful words which is the focus of this analytical perspective (...) These notions are, on the one hand, meaningless (meaning=reference) to the extent that each person or social group can invest them with particular experiences. On the other hand, these notions are also saturated with meaning (meaning=sense) to the extent that there is relatively little disagreement about them as cultural values.
