Apart from the Guadiana River, two major aquatic systems exist: the River Arade; and the largest lagoon of the Portuguese coast, the Ria Formosa (Bebianno, 1995). In the Algarve there is an important fish, shellfish and tourism industry, the total catch representing around 20% of all Portuguese fisheries. The region of the Algarve is also of high environmental and economic value.engInductionCadmiumMusselsEdulisConcentrations of metals and metallothioneins in Mytilus galloprovincialis along the south coast of Portugaljournal article10.1016/S0025-326X(97)00036-2
