O idadismo é um conceito que diz respeito a atitudes, práticas, preconceitos negativos tendo como base a idade. Os jornais em estudo têm, em parte, um papel fundamental na criação ou formação da opinião pública sobre o idadismo. O estudo do idadismo e dos seus estereótipos, no contexto moçambicano, é importante, pois ajuda-nos a perceber como os jornais difundem esses conceitos ou atitudes e permite-nos compreender a representação mediática dos adultos mais velhos. A representação dos adultos mais velhos nos artigos noticiosos desses dois jornais não obedece um critério homogéneo e, por isso, optamos por fazer uma análise de conteúdo de vários artigos que, criteriosamente, selecionámos. A análise de conteúdo foi feita a trinta (30) artigos desses dois jornais. A existência de estereótipos negativos e positivos, em ambos jornais, quando são representados os adultos mais velhos, foi uma das principais constatações neste trabalho.The main objective of this dissertation was to analyze ageism, stereotypes and representation of older adults in the Mozambican newspapers, “Notícias” and “Savana”, between the years 2015 and 2018. Ageism is a concept that concerns attitudes , practice negative prejudices based on age. The newspapers under study have, in part, a fundamental role in the creation or formation of public opinion about ageism. The study of ageism and its stereotypes, in the Mozambican context, is important, as it helps us to understand how newspapers spread these concepts or attitudes and allows us to understand the media representation of older adults. The representation of older adults in the news articles of these two newspapers does not obey a homogeneous criterion and, therefore, we chose to carry out a content analysis of the articles. Content analysis was performed on thirty (30) articles from these two newspapers.
