De caráter multicultural a cidade de Faro foi constituída através do encontro de diferentes povos e culturas. Elevada em uma zona portuária a região abriga, desde a época Pré-Romana, uma riqueza de histórias e memórias. A Muralha de Faro é uma das estruturas mais antigas do local, sendo um dos principais patrimónios que ancoram e traduzem a história da cidade. O presente estudo visa contribuir para a construção de um olhar analítico e reflexivo para com a Muralha de Faro. Através da educação patrimonial, pretende-se destacar a importância da Muralha para a cidade, despertando sentimentos de pertença e responsabilidade da comunidade local para com esse bem cultural. Para tanto, propõe-se responder a seguinte problemática de pesquisa: Quais são as estratégias de educação patrimonial, desenvolvidas com os estudantes e a comunidade, referente as Muralhas de Faro e qual a importância destas para o reconhecimento de pertença dos moradores na cidade? A pesquisa desenvolve-se por meio de um estudo de caso que analisa a riqueza da Muralha de Faro para a identidade do local e as propostas de educação patrimonial desenvolvidas neste bem material. Compreendendo o património como uma ponte entre o presente e o passado, o objetivo geral deste estudo busca perceber como se pode valorizar a Muralha de Faro, tornando a sua importância reconhecida pelos habitantes da cidade. E os objetivos específicos visam analisar estratégias de alfabetização patrimonial e movimentos de sensibilização patrimonial para compreensão, por parte da comunidade, das relações da modernidade com o passado e dos processos de identificação e pertença. A metodologia de pesquisa desenvolve-se a partir de um levantamento de estudos sobre o que se conhece da Muralha, da apreensão, através de entrevistas (à profissionais da área patrimonial), bem como a análise dos anais de Faro, para compreender a percepção do valor do bem. Os principais autores que constituem o referencial teórico deste trabalho são: Catroga (2001), Bauman (2013), Hall (2019), Mendes (2012), Silva (2018), Pinto (2015), González-Monfort (2019) e Saballa (2007). Como resultados, constatou-se que o município de Faro promove atividades de educação patrimonial no contexto escolar, possibilitando a construção de conhecimentos relacionado ao património, à história e à cultura. Esse projeto desempenha um papel crucial na valorização e apropriação dos monumentos por parte dos estudantes. Por outro lado, as atividades patrimoniais que envolvem a comunidade são atualmente limitadas e beneficiam apenas um pequeno número de residentes locais. É essencial ampliar as atividades culturais nos patrimónios e prédios históricos, dando ênfase à participação da comunidade. Isso porque os sentimentos de identificação e pertencimento emergem quando os patrimônios são construídos a partir de memórias individuais, coletivas e históricas, criando um vínculo emocional com o local e permitindo uma compreensão mais profunda de sua relevância histórica, social e afetiva para a cidade.
From a multicultural character, Faro city has been formed through the meeting of different people and cultures. Elevated in a harbour area, this region has been home to a wealth of histories and memories since Pre-Roman times. Faro Wall is one of the oldest structures in the area. It has been one of the principal heritage that anchor and reflect the city’s history. The presente studying aims to contribute for the construction of an analytical and refletive view about Faro Wall. Through the heritage education, the aim is to highlight the importance of the Wall for the city, awakening feelings of belonging and responsibility of the local community towards this cultural asset. So, the following research questions are: What are the heritage education strategies developed with students and the community regarding the Faro Wall, and what is their significance for residents' sense of belonging in the city? The research is conducted through a case study that analyzes the significance of the Faro Wall for the local identity and the heritage education proposals developed for this material asset. Understanding heritage as a bridge between the present and the past, the overall objective of this study seeks to understand how the Faro Wall can be valued, making its importance recognized by the city's inhabitants. The specific objectives aim to analyze strategies for heritage and spatial literacy and heritage awareness initiatives to help the community understand the relationships between modernity and the past, as well as processes of identification and belonging. The research methodology is based on a survey of existing studies on the knowledge of the Wall, of apprehension, through interviews with heritage professionals, as well as the analysis of historical annals of Faro, to understand the perception of the asset's value. The main authors forming the theoretical framework of this work include Catroga (2001), Bauman (2013), Hall (2019), Mendes (2012), Silva (2018), Pinto (2015), González-Monfort (2019), and Saballa (2007). As a result, it was observed that the municipality of Faro promotes heritage education activities within the school context, enabling the construction of knowledge related to heritage, history, and culture. This project plays a crucial role in the appreciation and appropriation of monuments by students. However, heritage activities involving the community are currently limited and benefit only a small number of local residents. It is essential to expand cultural activities in heritage sites and historic buildings, with a focus on community participation. This is because feelings of identification and belonging emerge when heritage is built upon individual, collective, and historical memories, creating an emotional connection to the location and allowing for a deeper understanding of its historical, social, and emotional significance to the city.
