Abstract(s)
The sexual abuse of minors is a reality that still exists in our society. This, being a type of child abuse, is also considered a public crime of sexual nature. In this sense and considering the rare intervention in pre-school age, emerges the present research entitled Sexual education in pre-school age: prevention as a protective factor against sexual abuse. This investigation was carried out in the preschool department of a Private Institution of Social Solidarity located in Loulé and was able to count with the involvement of 24 children and a kindergarten teacher. With this study we meant to understand the conceptions of children, between 3 and 6 years old, about the various conceptions of sex education, starting by questioning: “Do preschool children present any knowledge of how to prevent sexual abuse?”. Empirically, and to achieve the proposed objectives (chapter IV), it was used a qualitative methodology, contained in the descriptive paradigm, where a variety of data collection techniques were used: observation, informal conversations, field notes, audiovisual records, interview surveys and content analysis. Twenty-four children, two assistants and the nursery schoolteacher of the respective classroom participated in this study. Regarding the results, they showed that, at an initial stage, the children had no conceptions whatsoever about topic. However, after a contextualized pedagogical intervention, it was observed that the children demonstrated that they had acquired knowledge regarding the notion of the body and its safety, sharing this knowledge with their family.
