Abstract(s)
We assist to changes in the way one acquires and updates information on the
professional scope, by using Information and Communication Technology. Regarding
the need of improving the way nurses learn by using technology, in their continuous
training context, we’ve carried out a study that aims to answer the question: does the
use of Internet improves the professional continuous training of the nurses, namely, in
what concerns their self-training?
We have followed the methodology characteristic on the exploratory studies.
The analysis of results allowed us to conclude that the nurses use Internet more often
within their self training’ context for the acquisition and updating of knowledge and for
clarifying doubts about uncommon pathologies. The Internet is less used by them for:
dissemination of scientific works, attending at distance training courses and
participating in discussion’ forums.
The factors that enhance the use of Internet are the possibility of consulting information,
during the day, anytime, the availability of a great variety and amount of information
and the access to useful and reliable information, easily and quickly.
The use of internet is most limited by the excess of information available on the web,
the difficulties related to the low speed of the servers, due to slowness of the search or
to the impossibility of communication, as well as safety and technical problems.
The meaning attributed to the use of Internet in the nurses’ self-training process relates
with the advantages taken for the life long learning process.
