Managing relational capital for the sustainability of the energy sector in the social media
Publication . Casado-Molina, Ana-María; Ramos, Celia; Cabrera, Francisco
Various management models have been proposed for intangible business assets in this new digital era. However, these models do not consider the relationships between intangible assets in business management, or their effect. This work has two main objectives: first, to show the effect of intangi-ble assets as expressed in digital media related to energy brands; second, to demonstrate the rela-tionships between the emotions, experiences and attitudes of the audiences. To do so, a novel model of intangibles is proposed and applied to the energy sector using IBEX 35 data. In this sce-nario, we determine that users' experiences extracted from digital environments have significant relationships with one of the most important intangibles in the energy business, namely emotion.
On studying ageism in long-term care: a systematic review of the literature
Publication . São José, José; Amado, Carla
Background: Ageism in long-term care is pervasive, but it is not easy to define, to identify and to fight it in practice. These difficulties could be overcome if we develop research capable to conceptualize, detect, measure, and understand the multidimensionality and complexity of ageism. Nevertheless, to achieve this, it is fundamental to know how ageism in long-term care has been previously studied. Methods: This paper systematically reviews studies on ageism in long-term care services published before October 2015 and indexed in Web of Science, PubMed, and Social Care Online electronic databases. Electronic searches were complemented with visual scanning of reference lists and hand searching of leading journals in the field of gerontology. Four specific review questions were addressed: Which analytical angles (aetiology, prevalence, manifestations, consequences, and interventions) have been explored? Which theories and concepts have been used? Which methods have been employed? Which variants of ageism have been covered? Results: Studies have focused mainly on the manifestations, etiology, and prevalence of ageism, neglecting its consequences and the interventions to tackle it; a significant number of studies used scales of ageism which, despite being appropriate considering the aims of the research, present important limitations; most studies have focused on residential services, neglecting non-residential services; some of the variants of ageism have been well covered, while implicit and self-ageism have been under-explored. Conclusions: Research on ageism in long-term care services is scarce but important. Much has been done but much remains to be done. An agenda for future research is presented.
Tourism and technology
Publication . Ramos, Celia; Rodrigues, Joao
Journeys for religious reasons has been occurring along the evolution of humanity, in more recent decades, some of these travels were motivated only by (religious) tourism reasons. The information and communications technologies (ICTs) has had much impact on tourism over time, because information is one of the most important aspects to consider in the tourism sector. ICT can contribute to greater and better dissemination of knowledge about tangible and intangible heritage, while potentiate the acquisition deeper knowledge by the tourist (or local). The sharing and dissemination of the heritage (religious) knowledge in general should nowadays be focus in all kind of users, from residents, to "traditional" tourists, including tourists with accessibility limitations, hearing and/or visual impairments, restricted mobility, etc., and special groups, like senior citizens and kids. In this context, this paper presents a methodological referential for the development of a system (application) that enhances the increase in tourist affective immersion with the displayed heritage and promoting his/her tourist experience, in a personal and spiritual level.
Framework for a Hospitality Big Data Warehouse: The Implementation of an Efficient Hospitality Business Intelligence System
Publication . Ramos, Celia; Martins, Daniel; Serra, Francisco; Lam, Roberto; Cardoso, Pedro; Correia, Marisol; Rodrigues, João
order to increase the hotel's competitiveness, to maximize its revenue, to meliorate its online reputation and improve customer relationship, the information about the hotel's business has to be managed by adequate information systems (IS). Those IS should be capable of returning knowledge from a necessarily large quantity of information, anticipating and influencing the consumer's behaviour. One way to manage the information is to develop a Big Data Warehouse (BDW), which includes information from internal sources (e.g., Data Warehouse) and external sources (e.g., competitive set and customers' opinions). This paper presents a framework for a Hospitality Big Data Warehouse (HBDW). The framework includes a (1) Web crawler that periodically accesses targeted websites to automatically extract information from them, and a (2) data model to organize and consolidate the collected data into a HBDW. Additionally, the usefulness of this HBDW to the development of the business analytical tools is discussed, keeping in mind the implementation of the business intelligence (BI) concepts.
