- Behavioural changes among young adults in a post-covid eraPublication . Dapaah, Nathan Nsiah; Pedro, Ilda Maria HortaThe COVID-19 pandemic has had extensive effects on young adults' behaviours, prompting various control measures like lockdowns, social distancing, and mask-wearing. These measures significantly impacted the behaviour of individuals aged 18-49, leading to adjustments in work, education, mental health, and social interactions. A study focused on young adults in Ghana highlights these changes and proposes recommendations to address the challenges. In Ghana, the pandemic brought about increased loneliness and isolation among young adults due to restrictions on gatherings. The research aimed to bridge gaps in understanding the pandemic's impact on young adults in Ghana by assessing changes in social behaviour, health issues, labour, and financial challenges, as well as coping mechanisms. The study employed a quantitative approach, utilizing a structured questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. A total of 486 valid responses were analysed using statistical tools such as SPSS. The results show COVID-19 significantly affected young adults' mental well-being, with stress, anxiety, and depression reported by a significant portion of respondents. Breathing problems, a symptom of the virus, also affected many. The study underscored labour and financial hardships, including job losses and academic interruptions. Coping mechanisms ranged from social media utilization to seeking help from local authorities and healthcare services. Based on these findings, the study proposes authorities should sustain public health awareness campaigns to reinforce positive health-related behaviours, considering the significant impact of COVID-19 on social behaviour. Also, increased mental health support is essential to address the pandemic's impact on young adults' mental well-being. Recognizing social media's significance as a coping mechanism, health authorities and organizations should continue leveraging these platforms to disseminate accurate and timely information on COVID-19 and health-related matters. These can foster resilience and adaptability among young adults, thereby contributing to a more robust post-pandemic society.
