Abstract(s)
The evaluation of biological sex establishes a pivotal research
requirement in the forensic and bioarcheological analysis of human remains [1]. The best
techniques for sex assessment in unidentified skeletal individuals usually rely on the
pelvis, and also the cranium and long bones – notably the femur [1,2,3]. This study
presents a method for sex estimation using the proximal femur that is best suitable for
Portuguese populations – both contemporary and from the past.
