It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to the University of Algarve for this year's Blue Think Conference (BTC). For the first time, BTC is relocating from Matosinhos to Faro, in a symbolic gesture that reflects the strengthening collaboration within CIMAR-LA, the Associated Laboratory that brings together CIIMAR and CCMAR, and their respective PhD student committees.
This conference represents more than just a change of scenery. It is a recognition that marine science thrives on diversity of perspectives, approaches, and places. By alternating between the northern and southern coasts of Portugal, we celebrate the richness of our shared research community while honoring the distinct identities of our two research centres.
As early-career researchers, you are the heartbeat of our research centres and of this conference. Whether you are presenting your first poster, delivering an oral presentation, or simply engaging in the conversations that unfold during coffee breaks, you are contributing to something larger than yourself. You are shaping the future of marine science. The challenges we face—biodiversity loss, climate change, the sustainable use of ocean resources—are complex and urgent. They demand interdisciplinary thinking, bold ideas, and collaborative spirit. What better space to cultivate these qualities than a conference designed by and for students?
We are honored to host an inspiring lineup of keynote speakers, each bringing a unique perspective to our three thematic sessions. From fish nutrition to drug delivery, from multiple stressors to ecosystem services, their journeys remind us that scientific excellence is built on curiosity, perseverance, and the willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries.
