Abstract(s)
This investigation so called “ Expansion of European Union towards the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (PECO) and it' s consequences for Portugal” has the objective of examining the outgoing process of the European Union as an all, but in particular for Portugal. With the separation of the Eastern Block, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe found their economies involved in a big economic, political and social instability, and saw on Western Europe the opportunity of reconstruction and recovery of these economies. On the other hand, the European Union, with the liberation of PECO from a centralised economy and the oppression of the soviets, saw the opportunity of reuniting Europe once more, recognising the talent of Central and Eastern Europe countries by becoming active members, only if they shared the fundamental rules and values of the E.U.. Along the dissertation, they will be analyse what will be the conditions for these countries to enter to the European Union, what kind of difficulties will occur in these negotiations and which of these countries will be better prepared to face and overcome the same difficulties, therefore apply quicker to the European Union.
