Abstract(s)
The synergy between the Ecuadorian university and buen vivir has much to offer. Addressing this dynamic requires a deeper understanding of buen vivir and the indigenous tradition. These are worldviews that include a dialogue of knowledge and historical memory, based on the dignity of the other and on critical thinking, in the face of the predominant and global discourse of Western reality. This process calls for a new anthropological model that evidences different challenges. However, the proposal of "buen vivir" for Ecuadorian universities is current and belongs to the Latin American tradition. Currently, the Ecuadorian legal system has opted for this way of understanding the mission of university institutions and their social and research functions, as well as their contribution to the higher education system in the country, the region and the world. The challenge is a process of globalisation in which the university culture of the ego predominates.
