- Quantum vs. classical calculations of isotopic effect on the O(1D) + HD reactionPublication . Rio, CarolinaThe reaction of electronically excited oxygen atoms with ground state molecular hydrogen, H2(X1Σ+g), is known to play an important role in the atmospheric chemistry and combustion processes, and it has been the subject of extensive experimental and theoretical work over the past decade.
- Facultative secondary lecithotrophy in the megalopa of the shrimp Lysmata seticaudata (Risso, 1816) (Decapoda : Hippolytidae) under laboratory conditionsPublication . Calado, Ricardo; Dionisio, Gisela; Nunes, Cristovao; Dinis, Maria TeresaCertain decapod crustaceans can catabolize internal reserves to undergo partial or full larval development. This feature is termed secondary lecithotrophy, if energy used results from plankton derived organic matter accumulated Ig earlier larval stages. The present work reports the ability of Lysmata seticaudata megalopa to moll to the first juvenile stage in the absence of food. Unlike previous records of secondary lecithotrophy displayed by nonfeeding last larval stages of hermit crabs and spiny lobsters, the megalopa of L. seticaudata retains its feeding capacity. This is the first time such a feature has been reported in decapods, and the term facultative secondary lecithotrophy is proposed. The build up of energy reserves continues during the last zoeal stage of L. seticaudata, with starved zoea IX failing to molt to megalopa. Energy reserves that enable starved megalopa to molt to juvenile seem to be partially depleted, with starved juveniles produced either from, starved or fed megalopae being unable to molt to the next juvenile stage. The longer resistance of starved juveniles produced from fed megalopae (nine days), compared to that of starved juveniles produced from starved megalopae (five days), indicates that some energy reserves may pass to juvenile, not being totally depleted at metamorphosis.
- Dynamics of the Davydov-Scott monomer in a thermal bath: Comparison of the full quantum and semiclassical approachesPublication . Cuevas, J.; Silva, P. A. S.; Romero, F. R.; Cruzeiro, L.The quantum state diffusion equation is applied to the problem of energy transfer in proteins. Lindblad operators, capable of coupling the full quantum Davydov-Scott monomer to a thermal bath, are derived. Numerical simulations with the QSD equation show that the Lindblad operators derived do recreate the exact equilibrium ensemble for the Davydov-Scott monomer. Comparison of the results obtained with the full quantum and with the semiclassical systems shows that, at biological temperatures, the latter provides a good approximation of the former.
- García Gutiérrez, Gomes de Amorim e o drama romântico reflectidoPublication . Martins, Valdemar Miguel Neto Catarina; Morna, Mª de Fátima Rodrigues de FreitasThe following dissertation seeks to establish the common grounds between García Guitiérrez's "Los Hijos del Tío Tronera", and Gomes de Amorim's "Fígados de Tigre". Considering the cultural panorama that has enable the creation of both these two theatrical texts, understand the motive that has led both peninsular authors satirize the theatrical model, through self-criticism.
- Encruzilhadas do desenvolvimento comunitário. Memória social numa aldeia do barrocal do Algarve (Portugal)Publication .
Santana, Paula Cristina Silva Martins; Nunes, CristinaThe present study pretends to be a comparative analysis of articulated educative practice, developed with children in the last year in Pre-school education and primary school. The interest for this matter grows with the professional practice and academic knowledge built all over the long years of professional life. These knowledge make her believed that project work methodology and the development of games and artistic activities are important strategies to promote educative articulation between pre-school education and elementary school. The adopted methodology was the quantitative one. For recollected dates was built a specific questionnaire to permit to know more about educative practices of the two different navels of education, analyses and understand their motivations. To sum up, this study shows us that the educator’s practices have more visibility in the promotion of articulation and continuity educative connecting preschool and elementary school, because they attempt the approach. Professors still have prefunds roots in passive methodologies practices, also the development of games and artistic activities aren’t significant for them as recourse to the development of curriculum’s school. Teachers don’t give, also, importance to continue the development of Work Methodology.
- Matrizes e grafosPublication . Azevedo, Simone Lopes; Marques, Maria da GraçaKey-words: matrix, graph, digraph. The way of relating matrices and graphs or digraphs is well known. Many properties of matrices are re ected in characteristics of their associated graphs (digraphs), and, conversely, to certain types of graphs correspond matrices with peculiar properties. The objective of this dissertation is to collect, systematize, and present some results already known about relationships be- tween graphs (digraphs) and matrices. Basic connections between graphs (digraphs) and matrices are presented along the rst chapters. In the fol- lowing chapters, concrete situations where properties of matries are deduced from the charateristics of their associated graphs (digraphs), and vice-versa, are presented. In this scope, properties of matrices related with chordal graphs, CDUM and cyclic digraphs are explored and, nally, properties of graphs associated to Fiedler matrices are studied.
