- Adult learning and education in Spain and Portugal: an interpretative study of doctoral theses (2006-2018)Publication . Belando-Montoro, María R.; Barros, Rosanna; Lampreia-Carvalho, FatimaThis article presents a cartography of the field of research in adult learning and education (ALE) via a comparative study of academic production at doctoral level in Spain and Portugal based on a systematic documentary analysis of the summaries of doctoral theses concluded between 2006 and 2018. The aim is to advance the state of the art of research on ALE in recent doctoral theses in both Countries and highlight trends of contemporary knowledge construction in the field of continuing education of adults. Two analytical strategies are applied: i) a characterisation of the doctoral theses' abstracts by a constructed grid with general and specific categories; and ii) a quantitative strategy of identifying frequencies in the grid for 18 keywords, 6 frameworks and paradigms and 12 associated to concepts. The mapping of priorities and absences in doctoral research at Higher Education Institutions (HEI) demonstrate that in Spain, there is a tendency to present the role of ALE closely related to assisting individuals and groups to adapt to the educational system, to society and to labour demands. In Portugal an unresolved tension between the adaptation of adults to society through ALE and the conscientization of adults by ALE to transform society remains.

A mix-methodapproach was performed using triangulation involving three studies. First,a survey-based questionnaire encompassing the high and low seasons of the Algarve tourism experience.
- QR codes: A case of its level of adoption in PortugalPublication . Lopes Bolzan, Roberson; Ventura, Paula; Fernandes, Silvia; Lampreia Carvalho, FatimaThe choice of this work arises from the interest in the topics of entrepreneurship and technology transfer toward launching more innovative products/services. It focuses on delivering a technology, QR code, which brings more innovation to a product especially with the current growth of mobile activities. Then, with the help of a strategic plan, it evaluates the level of potential acceptation and adoption of the proposed service and of widespread use of QRs in Portugal. Thus, an interactive prototype of the supporting platform is described and used for its validation with users. Most participants in this project know the technology and consider the idea interesting and promising. They even suggest add-ons such as more video functions and a higher variety of events and/or resources for combination. However, through a deeper analysis, aspects related with effective use of the service, eventual payment, and explaining how it works reveal lower enthusiasm. Thus, although there is a promising scenario for its implementation in the Portuguese market, training aimed at effectively knowing and using QR-code technology must evolve. Given the challenges of today's society, the future application of this product/service shall pass through an innovation acspecialized information or resources for activities in the areas of tourism, banking, health, etc.

- COVID-19 impact on tourism: the system thinking approach applied to the case of PortugalPublication . Fernandes, Silvia; Lampreia Carvalho, FatimaThis work applies systems theory and tools to build a flexible framework for sustainable tourism in Portugal due to the Covid-19 impacts. The objectives are (1) to explore the cause-effect relationships between and among the variables involved; (2) to develop a causal loop diagram that resumes the role of tourism stakeholders and (3) to identify policy directions to enhance Portuguese tourism. Tourism recovery in the country will depend mainly on interlinked factors of economic, social and health fields. Its complexity requires new approaches in tourism research, such as system thinking models and testing tools such as neural simulation. As well as statistical data and tourism official documents, a panel of European specialists has been used. The proposed approach is innovative as it helps the integration of tourism theory with other fields, and outlines policy solutions to the situation in Portugal which can be dynamically adapted. A qualitative analysis pointed out how crucial are the policy making activities (rebalancing measures) counteracting the causes and negative consequences of the problem.
- Hospitality employers and employees' Perceptions regarding Covid-19 support measures: the case of the Algarve region (Portugal)Publication . Henriques, Cláudia; Lampreia Carvalho, FatimaThis paper aims at investigating hospitality employers and employees' perceptions regarding governmental policies and measures implemented during Covid 19 crisis, in the Algarve, one of the most tourist regions of Portugal. The methodological framework is associated with a case study based on a set of 51 interviews to Algarvean hospitality employers and employees. A content analysis of interviews on the effects of the pandemic on hospitality was car- ried using the software QSR NVivo 12. Covid 19 employment impacts were considered as 'very high' and 'high' in the Algarvean hospitality. Portuguese governmental intervention was classified as good, but more support should be enhanced, namely associated with four main policy areas such as 'income-generating support measures', 'cost reduc-tions', 'legal framework', and 'health and safety'.
- Past behaviour intentions, present normative beliefs, and future customer loyaltyPublication . Rodrigues Guita Almeida, Maria Helena; Cesário, Marisa; Lampreia Carvalho, FatimaTourists are often motivated by a desire to reduce their impact on the environment and support local communities. By understanding the motivations and preferences of different types of tourists, destinations can tailor their offerings to attract and retain a diverse range of visitors. This study aims to determine if tourists who are attracted to the natural environment in a destination are more likely to engage in sustainable behaviors. It also explores whether easy access to information on sustainability influences decision‐making when traveling. The article raises the question of whether post‐pandemic tourists seek sustainable destinations due to both internal motivations and external influences. This article examines the convergence of pull‐push tourist motivations in sustainable destination preferences post‐pandemic. Using data from 12,101 Eurobarometer 2021 respondents from the TOP 12 countries with high pro‐environmental attitudes, the study found a confirmation of sustainable behaviors among European citizens. Future research directions and limitations are discussed.
- Mapping organizational culture, work motivation and innovative behaviour, before and during the crisis: a bibliometric analysisPublication . Rodrigues Guita Almeida, Maria Helena; Kumi, S.; Lampreia Carvalho, FatimaAbstract COVID-19 and the Russia–Ukraine war have profoundly transformed the organisational culture of many organisations, shifting from a focus on security to innovation, which poses a major challenge for managers in all aspects of service delivery, including the healthcare sector. This article addresses gaps in the literature by exploring and mapping the evolution of organisational culture, work motivation, and innovative behaviour before and during the crisis (2012–2018), and summarises the relationship between these variables in 25 selected articles. A literature review on Web of Science with bibliometric analysis and RStudio was conducted. The dynamics, associations, dimensions, and networks that emerge as a way of adapting to new contexts to foster innovation are examined. Results indicate that keywords have evolved over time, and a positive and significant relationship between organisational culture, motivation, and innovation was also identified. The findings suggest that organisations should focus on organisational culture to leverage it as a tool for motivating and fostering innovative behaviour in the workplace.
