Satisfação e a lealdade ao destino na perspetiva do mercado britânico no Algarve
Publication . Café, Telma Pacheco; Guerreiro, Manuela; Valle, Patrícia Oom do
This research approaches the British market that visits the Algarve region. In specific, this research aimed to characterize the British market regarding the following dimensions: socio-demographic profile, description of the visit, satisfaction with the tourist experience and destination loyalty.
In order to withstand those main aims, this study used data from the project SAICT-ALG/39588/2018 (TurExperience - Tourist experiences' impacts on the destination images: searching for new opportunities to the Algarve).
For the data collection, a questionnaire survey, including 32 questions, was applied. A total of 465 British tourists were surveyed. Data were collected during the high season of the tourism activity of 2021, between July and September.
The results contribute to the literature on the impacts of tourism on satisfaction and loyalty in the British market. In this context, the results indicate that British tourists are satisfied with the region and pretend to return a day later. These results can assist tourism companies and public decision-makers in identifying actions and policies that can foster the tourism sector regarding this important market.
From tourist experience to satisfaction and loyalty: exploring the role of a sense of well-being
Publication . Bagheri, Fatemeh; Guerreiro, Manuela; Pinto, Patrícia; Ghaderi, Zahed
Drawing on the authentic happiness theory, the aims of this article are three-fold: first, to propose a refined measurement
scale for tourists’ sense of well-being; second, to investigate the impact of four categories of tourist experience on tourists’
sense of well-being; and third, to explore the effect of the sense of well-being on tourists’ satisfaction and loyalty. Data were
collected from tourists spending their holidays in the Algarve, Portugal. To address the lack of an integrated measurement
scale for assessing tourists’ sense of well-being, an exploratory factor analysis was initially conducted. Subsequently, the
data were analyzed using structural equation modeling in WarpPLS 8.0. The findings reveal a three-dimensional scale for
tourists’ sense of well-being, consisting of meaningfulness, active pleasure, and release. The results also show a significant
positive impact of the four realms of tourists’ experiences on the sense of well-being. Finally, positive relationships between
well-being, tourist satisfaction and loyalty are confirmed. The theoretical and practical implications, limitations, and potential
directions for future research are discussed.

Tourism Destination Image (TDI) is complex, dynamic and multidimensional by nature and shaped by a multitude of events, interactions and sensory impressions, especially once the tourist is at the destination, generating tourists' engagement on social media networks. This study aims to measure the online destination image (ODI) portrayed in user-generated content (UGC) on social media by employing the sentiment analysis method. Data were extracted from Facebook and Instagram on the Visit Algarve social media profile. The Algarve region is situated in the south of Portugal and is one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. The main results shed light on the relevance of intangible heritage experiences as triggers of positive feelings about the destination. Content shared about tourists' activities in the region generates more engagement in the tourism destination's social media. Tangible heritage received the lowest rated sentiment, and destination agents should strategically look into it as there are opportunities for destination management. Tourism infrastructure has the lowest engagement value; therefore, in terms of promotion, it does not generate interest.
