Abstract(s)
According to the literature consulted, the strong association between the history of childhood trauma and the origin of the borderline disorder, often associated with severe dissociative personality characteristics, seems to be consensual. Still, there seem to be mixed results regarding the specific influence of each type of abuse on the emergence of borderline traits. For this reason, our main objective was to characterize the association between the occurrence of traumatic events in childhood and borderline personality traits in a group of forty-two university students. Our main results are in line with expectations, indicating a very significant association between childhood trauma experience and the presence of borderline traits. However, emotional abuse and emotional neglect were the types of trauma that were most associated with borderline functioning.
