Abstract(s)
The Parenting Alliance Inventory (Abidin & Brunner, 1995), is a self-report instrument that measures the parenting alliance and the relationship of support and trust that exists between the couple as parents. This dimension of parenting has an impact on parental behaviour and children outcomes, reasons why it is extremely important to study it and have access to instruments that allow us to measure it. This is even more urgent in at-risk families, where the well-being of the children can be compromised and where the parenting alliance can mitigate the situation in which they live. In this sense, we consider important the validation of this instrument to the Portuguese population, through a confirmatory factor analysis, using a sample of at-risk families. In this study participated a total of 273 families with children between the ages of 0 and 18 years old, living in Algarve, with a promotion and protection measure in the Child and Youth Protection Committees due to the existence of risk situations, without sufficient severity that require protection measures of removal from the family. Four instruments were used to obtain information on socio-demographic data, parenting alliance, parenting sense of competence, parenting stress, and marital satisfaction. The results confirm that the PAI presents good psychometric characteristics for its validation, presenting levels of internal consistency and reliability quite satisfactory.
