Abstract(s)
This report was created within the scope of the Curricular Unit of Supervised Teaching Practice (PES), with the aim of achieving a master’s degree in teaching the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and 2nd Cycle Of Basic Education in Portuguese and History and Geography of Portugal. In this regard, an investigation was conducted, in which the main question was: “During classes, how does the explicit work about Children’s Rights gives an opportunity to educate them on Citizenship?” To reach a conclusion to the question, an investigation was planned on a 6th Year school class, in a school located in Algarve. This class contained a total of 29 students, in which 16 students were females and 13 were males, all aged between 10 and 12 years old. The study was conducted in a qualitative methodology, with data collection through participant observation, audio recordings, field notes, photographic records questionnaire research and productions realized by participants. The study is formed with four stages of a didactic sequence, each of them is focus on a type of rights, namely: Right to give an opinion, Right to belong in a family, Right to a private life and lastly Right to have Education. The pedagogical intervention during the investigation led to verify the student’s knowledge about Children’s Rights, to improve their skills of expression, oral interaction and respect for one another. This investigation helped the students to solidify and broad their knowledge about some of the mentioned Children’s Rights. It also gave an opportunity to discuss the related themes and allow them to conclude that the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education student’s opinion is an opinion constructed and influenced by the adults whom they interact daily. The results of this study indicates that approaching and educate students on Children’s Rights, in the classroom, contributes to further improve to Citizenship Education.
