O stress da infertilidade e saúde geral: o papel mediador da fusão cognitiva

Uma grande parte da população, tem expectativas de vida que incluem a parentalidade. No entanto, nem todos os casais que desejam uma gravidez irão conseguir esse objetivo. A infertilidade é uma dificuldade que tem ocupado lugar de evidência no leque de preocupações da população humana, tendo sido objeto de extensos estudos, visto impossibilitar a concretização de um desejo básico de procriação. A impossibilidade de gerar um filho pode resultar em fatores stressantes para o casal, dificultando ainda mais este processo. Além do stress associado a uma situação de infertilidade e de tratamentos relacionados com procriação medicamente assistida, muitos casais, especialmente as mulheres, interiorizam ideias, muitas vezes disfuncionais, por meio de uma situação- fenómeno de fusão cognitiva. Assim, pretendeu-se analisar de que forma o stress relacionado com a infertilidade influencia a saúde geral destas mulheres e de que forma a fusão cognitiva tem uma função mediadora entre estas duas variáveis, recorrendo a um estudo qualitativo e correlacional. Foram aplicados 3 questionários, via online, baseados em três escalas: Questionário de Saúde Geral, Inventário de Problemas de Fertilidade e Questionário de Fusão Cognitiva. A amostra foi constituída por 43 mulheres que enfrentavam a infertilidade e responderam, efetivamente, ao questionário. Os resultados mostraram uma relação entre o stress derivado da infertilidade com o estado de saúde geral, sendo que a primeira variável tem um efeito negativo na segunda. Também se provou que a fusão cognitiva tem um papel mediador entre estas duas variáveis, sendo que, quando as ideias distorcidas derivadas da fusão cognitiva se encontram controladas, os níveis de stress são menores e, consequentemente a qualidade da saúde geral é maior, sendo que o inverso também ocorre. Assim, é importante o desenvolvimento de estratégias de diminuição de stress junto destas mulheres, dando-se especial atenção ao processo de fusão cognitiva, associado à infertilidade.
A large part of the world's population has life expectancies that include parenting. However, not all couples who desire a pregnancy will achieve this goal. Infertility is a problem that has been occupying an obvious place in the range of concerns of the human population, it has been the object of extensive studies, since it makes it impossible to realize a basic desire supported by the instinct, to have children. The impossibility of having a child can result in stressful factors for the couple's life, making this process even more difficult. Besides the stress associated with a situation of infertility and treatments related to medically assisted procreation, many couples, especially women, internalize ideas, often dysfunctional, about the situation, a phenomenon called cognitive fusion. The aim is to analyse how infertility-related stress influences the general health of these women and how cognitive fusion has a mediating function between these two variables, using a qualitative and correlational study. Tree questionnaires based on three scales were applied: General Health Questionnaire, Inventory Problem Fertility and Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire. The sample consisted of 43 women who effectively answered the questionnaire, in the process of infertility. The results show that there is a relationship between infertility-derived stress and general health status, with the first variable having a negative effect on the second. It has also been proved that cognitive fusion has a mediating role between these two variables, and when the distorted ideas derived from cognitive fusion are controlled, the levels of stress are lower and, consequently, the quality of general health is higher, the opposite also happens. Thus, it is of great importance to develop strategies to reduce stress among these women, paying special attention to issues related to cognitive fusion, related to infertility.
