Abstract(s)
familiaridade com a IoT e as tecnologias por ela potenciadas, nomeadamente o check-in/out
automatizado, assistente digital e mensagens personalizadas em tempo real.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a constantly evolving technology that has been innovating various areas of modern life, such as agriculture, health, transport, smart homes, and cities. The technology offers the ability to collect and analyze data in real-time, facilitating effective decision-making and improving the efficiency of specific operational processes. This research focuses on the applicability of IoT in the 4- and 5-star hotel industry, recognizing that the technology can play a relevant role in the competitiveness of hotels due to its potential to provide improved and personalized services to guests, including Generation Z, which represents the future customers of the sector. The adoption of IoT in hospitality can thus enhance the guest experience by optimizing operations and making the industry more innovative and more efficient. To understand the current and future role of IoT technology in the 4- and 5-star hotel industry, a comprehensive comparison was made between the expectations of Generation Z and the perspectives of hotel managers. This research revealed a series of asymmetries and convergences between two distinct respondent groups: Generation Z members and hotel managers. Concerning their familiarity with the Internet of Things (IoT) and expectations towards the technologies, it enables real-time automated check-in/out, digital assistants, and personalized messaging.
