Abstract(s)
Este ensaio procura fazer uma análise minuciosa do capítulo 12 da Ética Prática de Peter Singer, capítulo fundamental não apenas para a compreensão do pensamento ético e moral do autor, mas igualmente para a compreensão do pensamento cultural e civilizacional que o autor tem da humanidade. É nesse sentido que a pergunta plasmada em título – por que agir moralmente? –, não se limita ao horizonte da discussão redundante do interesse pessoal ou dos fatores educacionais mas se transforma no exercício filosófico-ético de indagação pelo agir humano no mundo, e, portanto, uma questão que radica no interior da própria ética (como refere o autor), isto é, enquanto fundamento do agir humano. O ensaio termina com uma reflexão sobre a validade do pensamento ético do autor nesse capítulo específico, e algumas considerações sobre o pensamento geral ético do filósofo.
This essay seeks to provide a detailed analysis of chapter 12 of Peter Singer’s Practical Ethics. Fundamental chapter not only for understanding the author’s ethical and moral thought, but also for understanding the author’s cultural and civilizational thought. It is in this sense that the question posed in the title - why act morally - is not limited to the horizon of the redundant discussion of personal interest or educational factors but becomes the philosophical-ethical exercise of inquiry into human action in the world, and therefore, It is a question that is rooted within ethics itself (as the author states), that is, as the foundation of human action. The essay ends with a reflection on the validity of the author’s ethical thinking in this specific chapter and some considerations on the philosopher’s general ethical thought.
