Abstract(s)
The aim of the present thesis was to evaluate the efficacy of the Family Education and Support Program (FAF) in parenting practices on psychosocial risk families of Boa Vista, Cape Verde. The FAF is a psychoeducational and community intervention program, designed to integrate preventive and formative actions, in order to promote positive parenting and preventing child abuse through a participatory and experiential methodology. Participants were 71 parents with children aged between six and 12 years old. Of the total sample, 47 formed the intervention group and 24 formed the control group. Participants answered the sociodemographic questionnaire and the parenting educational practices questionnaire. The evaluation was carried out through a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test for both groups. The results showed that the intervention group achieved a significant improvement after the intervention in the dimensions of parental practices of affection and support, regulation, autonomy, and excessive reactivity, with effect sizes that varied between medium and large. The control group showed no significant differences between the pre-test and the post-test. In conclusion, the FAF Program proved to be effective in promoting positive parenting practices, which favor the development and well-being of minors in families at risk.
