Conhecimentos e atitudes dos estudantes universitários face aos maus tratos infantis

| dc.description.abstract | Os maus tratos infantis são um problema de saúde pública que podem ter graves implicações no desenvolvimento do ser humano. O principal objetivo do presente trabalho é analisar as relações existentes entre a área científica, a idade, o sexo, a autoestima e a vivência de maus tratos na infância dos estudantes universitários com as atitudes e os conhecimentos que têm face aos maus tratos infantis. Para esse efeito recorreu-se a uma amostra composta por 261 participantes da Universidade do Algarve, de diferentes cursos, e de ambos os sexos, com idades compreendidas entre os 17 e os 56 anos (M = 21,07; DP = 4,47), a quem foram aplicados os seguintes instrumentos: Questionário de conhecimentos e atitudes do maltrato infantil, Questionário de avaliação de trauma infantil – CTQ-SF e a Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg. Os resultados mostram não existir diferenças significativas em função da área de estudo, do sexo e da idade, com a exceção nas características dos filhos enquanto responsáveis pelos maus tratos, onde se encontram diferenças entre os alunos de psicologia e biomédicas, em que psicologia apresenta uma média superior. Quer a existência de maus tratos na infância, quer a autoestima apresentam correlações fracas com algumas das dimensões relativas aos conhecimentos e atitudes dos maus tratos infantis. Em suma, parece que os conhecimentos e as atitudes face aos maus tratos infantis são principalmente influenciados quer pela autoestima, quer pelas vivências de maus tratos na infância, o que parece ser justificado pelo impacto das experiências na infância ao nível da autoestima e dos próprios conhecimentos adquiridos. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Child maltreatment is a public health problem that can have serious implications for the development of the human being. The main objective of the present study is to analyze the relationships between the scientific area, age, sex, self-esteem and the experience of maltreatment in the childhood of university students with the attitudes and knowledge that have to face child maltreatment. For this purpose, we used a sample of 261 participants from the university of Algarve of different courses and of both sexes aged between 17 and 56 years (M = 21,07; SD = 4,47) who were applied the following instruments: Knowledge questionnaire and attitudes of child maltreatment, Child trauma assessment questionnaire - CTQ-SF and the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. The results show that there are no significant differences according to the area of study neither gender or age except the characteristics of the children as responsible for maltreatment. Here there are differences between students of psychology and biomedical where psychology presents a higher average. Both childhood maltreatment and self-esteem have weak correlations with some of the dimensions related to the knowledge and attitudes of child abuse. In summary it seems that knowledge and attitudes towards child maltreatment are mainly influenced both by self-esteem and by childhood maltreatment experiences which seems to be justified by the impact of childhood experiences on the level of self-esteem and self-knowledge acquired. | pt_PT |
