Survivable Wdm Optical Networks

Use this identifier to reference this record.

Abstract(s)

In this dissertation survivability in mesh WDM optical networks is investigated. Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is a key technology to meet the expected increases in traffic of future networks. When using WDM, a single fiber failure can be catastrophic since all wavelength channels in the fiber will fail simultaneously, affecting several lightpaths active on the network. As WDM networks move from experimental to commercial deployment efforts to improve survivability in such WDM networks becomes crucial.
