A
contudo a compreensão desta variável ainda é limitada. O presente estudo pretendeu
Universidade do Algarve.
As
Affect Phobia Therapy (A P T ) is a is a model of psychodynamic therapy in which the experience and expression of emotions is a fundamental mechanism for achieving results. Research on Emotional Experience (EE) has been indicating it as a predictor of better therapeutic outcomes, however the understanding of this variable is still limited. T he current st udy aimed at identifying EE evolution profiles and investigating the existence of agreement (vs. disagreement) between the EE evolution profiles reported by clients (C EE) and by their therapists (T E E), as well as describing the influence of these phenome na on therapeutic outcome. The sample included 2 psychologists and 14 clients undergoi n g psychotherap y according to A FT , at the p sychology center of the University of Algarve. After each session, the clients answered measures about their EE and symptomatology, while the therapists answered a measure about the client's EE. Through data analysis using the Hierarchical Linear Model, we found that the C E E remained constant over time and was not related to the results, while the T E E evolved increasingly and was associated with a decrease in symptomatology. In turn, using polynomial regressions combined with Response Surface Analysis, we found that agre ement between perspectives was not associated with therapy outcomes. However, the results suggest that there may be an association between disagreement and outcomes, as the C E E was higher than the T E E and, by comparison, when the T E E was higher than the C E E, there was less symptomatology. This same association between disagreement and the results was also more evident in session 20. The conclusions found suggest that both the profile of the evolution of EE and the effect it has on the results differ bet ween perspectives . They also allowed us to make an initial contribution to the study of agreement (vs. disagreement) in this therapeut ic model
