Abstract(s)

The study took place in geographical contexts situated in different continents, but undergoing in India a strong Portuguese socio-cultural influence for about 450 years. The research methodology was based on an ethnographic approach. Participant observation was used to collect and record data which were analysed using the comparative method. Audio and video recordings, photographs, as well as the collection of materials, were chosen as a privileged way of preserving the ludic heritage. The results of the study indicate that nowdays there are still common ludic activities - games, dances, round dances, children's singing games, as well as festivities and popular traditions in general. Similarities and influences are analysed. The study of ludic props evidences sirnilar ways of improvising with the materials used. The approach to the study of space showed the importance of the sense ofplace. This research points out to the fact that future studies should further investigate sources connected to the Visual Arts, Music, Cinema, Literature, and also pay special attention to new forms of creativity and communication. The preservation of this ludic heritage may help to maintain the cultural identity as well as the bonds that link Portugal to Goa, Daman and Diu.
