Abstract(s)
This last few decades represented change, change at a social and labor level. These changes affected the two most significant spheres of individuals, family and work. However, the difficulty in reconciling the roles and demands associated with both spheres remains, increasing family-work and work-family conflict. Recovery experiences and subsequent adjustment to work after a period of vacation will be affected depending on the reconciliation of work and family demands, as well as the well-being of individuals. With a sample of 202 participants, 62 men and 140 women, aged between 19 and 68 years old (M=44.74; SD=10.737) this quantitative study aims to observe: (1) the influence of work and domestic demands on recovery strategies and how work-family and family-work conflict mediate this relation, (2) the influence of recovery strategies in the subsequent adjustment to work after vacation and in the well-being of employees and, finally (3) whether there are differences according to gender. The results showed that work and home demands affect both work-family conflict and recovery strategies. Work-family and family-work conflict were considered mediators of the relationship between demands and recovery strategies, highlighting the importance of managing it to mitigate its effects. It was also concluded that a good recovery positively influences the adjustment to work and the well-being of employees. Differences between genders were only recorded in terms of domestic demands, with women having higher means. These results reinforce the need for organizational policies that promote the balance between work and family spheres, aiming to improve both well-being and professional performance.
