Esta dissertação estuda as determinantes da percepção dos residentes acerca dos impactos ambientais do turismo e o seu comportamento em relação ao desenvolvimento turístico na região do Algarve. Neste sentido, identifica-se de que forma os impactos ambientais do turismo são percebidos no território pelos residentes, como a dependência econômica da atividade turística influencia a percepção e como se caracteriza o comportamento, bem como o grau de sensibilização dos residentes face a estes impactos. Apesar da já vasta investigação existente sobre os impactos do turismo no ambiente, particularmente os seus impactos negativos, continua a ser relevante explorar em profundidade esta relação e como os diversos stakeholders a percepcionam.
This dissertation studies the determinants of residents' perception of the environmental impacts of tourism and their behaviour in relation to tourism development in the Algarve region. In this sense, it identifies how the environmental impacts of tourism are perceived in the territory by residents, how economic dependence on tourist activity influences perception and how behaviour is characterised, as well as the degree to which residents are aware of these impacts. Despite the vast amount of existing research into the impacts of tourism on the environment, particularly its negative impacts, it is still relevant to explore this relationship in depth and how the various stakeholders perceive it.
