- A antecipação da velhice na meia-idade: uma perspetiva de géneroPublication . Janssens-Theunis, Alyssa; São José, JoséEste artigo reporta os resultados de uma pesquisa qualitativa, que procurou compreender, a partir de uma perspetiva de género, como é que os indivíduos na meia-idade antecipam a sua própria velhice. Detetou-se uma grande diversidade de modos de antecipação da própria velhice, bem como marcas de género relativamente à opinião de alguns entrevistados (maioritariamente mulheres) sobre o modo como os homens e as mulheres antecipam a própria velhice e sobre a idade em que eles e elas entram na velhice. Outros entrevistados (maioritariamente homens) acham que as eventuais diferenças entre sexos no que respeita a estes dois temas não têm a ver com o género. São discutidas as implicações destes resultados para o conhecimento sociológico e para as políticas públicas.
- Análise fatorial confirmatória da escala de satisfação holística com a vidaPublication . Neves de Jesus, Saúl; Viseu, João; Iacob, Vivien; Pereira Guerreiro, MarianaA satisfação com a vida é um dos principais conceitos da Psicologia Positiva. No entanto, não existe um instrumento que avalie simultaneamente as suas facetas. Neste artigo apresentou-se o modelo de satisfação holística com a vida, bem como uma escala para avaliar este constructo. Num estudo anterior, foi realizada uma análise fatorial exploratória (AFE) da Escala da Satisfação Holística com a Vida (ESHV), tendo os resultados correspondido ao esperado. No presente estudo, foi efetuada uma análise fatorial confirmatória (AFC) da ESHV, sendo utilizada uma amostra de 708 profissionais. Os resultados expressam um modelo de seis fatores, em linha com o modelo teórico proposto e os resultados obtidos na AFE. Esta escala avalia, não apenas a satisfação com a vida de uma forma geral, mas também vários aspetos relevantes para a satisfação pessoal: trabalho, relações sociais, vida privada/familiar, lazer e sono.
- Analysis of the strategic leverage of sport dynamics of sport tourism events through a holistic approachPublication . Martins, Rute Sofia Tavares; Mascarenhas, MargaridaThis study focuses on the development of sport dynamics arising from the strategic leverage of sport events and encompassing the planning of tactics and actions conducive to its implementation. Therefore, the objective of this study aims to analyse the sport dynamic leveraging efforts of the event organizers of two non-mega international events. This investigation included the case study of international open water events hosted in Setúbal, Portugal. Data were collected through: (i) documentary analysis covering the period 2010–2022; (ii) field observation of the two events in 2022; and (iii) 14 post-event semi-structured interviews with representatives of the event organizers and a local partner of the events. The data were examined through content analysis using deductive data categorization. The results highlighted the importance of strategic planning of the benefits of sport events, considering both the increase in sport (active and passive) participation and the strengthening of sport organizational capacity. This expanded vision of the development of sport dynamics can maximize more benefits for the host community. The long-term perspective of leveraging local sport dynamics provided by the study of international sport events emphasized the need for a strategic vision that combines an asset-based approach and a community needs-based approach.

Meanwhile, with the industrial revolution, landscapes have become more artificial, reducing the human–nature relationship. Urban design should follow biophilic principles to reconnect people with nature, mitigate climate change, improve air quality, restore biodiversity loss, and solve social problems. Poor air quality affects people’s health, and vegetation plays a crucial role in purifying the air. Similarly, contact with nature benefits physical and mental health and well-being. However, there is no consensus on how urban design can be beneficial for improving air quality and human health. This review paper aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of evidence linking nature-based solutions (NBSs), air quality, carbon neutrality, and human health and well-being. Five hundred articles published between 2000 and 2024 were analysed. A number of publications studied the benefits of green infrastructure in improving air quality, carbon sequestration, or the influence of green spaces on human health. The topic of NBSs has recently emerged related to air quality, health, and promoting physical activity, as has accessibility to green spaces and mental health, also associated with blue spaces and residential gardens. The results revealed the gaps in the literature on how to design green and blue spaces to tackle environmental and public health crises simultaneously.

MosharrafThe COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally transformed consumer behavior on a global scale, and Bangladesh is no exception. The pandemic caused extraordinary disruptions in daily life, forcing consumers to rapidly adjust to a new normal characterized by lockdowns, social isolation, and limitations on physical mobility. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) brings greater changes in the consumer decision-making process across the globe. Factors affecting consumers’ electronic shopping (e-shopping) decisions may vary between pre and during the COVID-19 situation. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to investigate the determinants of electronic shopping decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of Bangladesh, along with the role of consumers’ psychology as a mediator. Quantitative type research was applied, and the study used a descriptive research design. A standardized questionnaire was used to collect 543 data points from Bangladeshi consumers using an online purposive sampling method. A partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach was used to evaluate the data and test the hypotheses. The results of the PLS-SEM method showed that electronic shopping decisions were significantly associated with consumers’ psychology, governmental, health, product, and payment factors. The results also revealed that consumers’ psychology significantly and positively mediates the relationship between three determinants (e.g., governmental, social, and product aspects) and electronic shopping decisions. The research recommends that managers, policymakers, and practitioners should provide special attention to the significant determinants of electronic shopping decisions and formulate relevant strategies to address the changes in consumer behavior brought by coronavirus disease.
- Examining the antecedents and outcomes of satisfaction in film festival context: further evidence of validity of the eudaimonic feelings constructPublication . Medeiros, Sandro Alves de; Campos, Ana Cláudia; Sthapit, Erose; Freitas, Lara Brunelle Almeida; Mondo, Tiago SaviWithin festivals and events, film festivals are among the fastest growing cultural events in the world and are recognised as bringing environmental, sociocultural and economic benefits to host tourism destinations including enhanced well-being. These festivals are an important marketing strategy for developing destination image and attracting interest towards a destination. However, there are limited studies on the film festival experience exploring the antecedents of participants’ satisfaction. This study examines the relationship between eudaimonic feelings, novelty, local culture, nostalgia, perceived quality, satisfaction, and behavioural intentions. Data were gathered during the last 3 days of the Penedo Film in the City of Penedo, Northeast Brazil using a questionnaire. A total of 97 valid questionnaires were collected from the festival attendees. Findings show that only eudaimonic feelings and perceived quality are predictors of satisfaction. To the best of authors knowledge, this study is the first to examine the perceived experience of participants in a film festival context from a positive psychology perspective and providing further empirical support for construct validity of eudaimonic feelings. The findings contribute to the existing tourism literature on film festivals by identifying key antecedents (eudaimonic feelings and perceived quality) and outcomes (behavioural intentions) of satisfaction with film festival. One of the main managerial implications includes engaging film festival participants in co-creation processes and in promoting group discussions about a specific movie with an appealing and social relevant theme.
- Exploração das percepções sobre o emprego na hotelaria no Algarve durante a COVIDPublication . Castela, Guilherme; Henriques, Cláudia Helena; Lampreia Carvalho, Fatima; Afonso, CarlosThe Travel and Tourism (T&T) industry is highly sensitive to extreme events like pandemics (Price et al., 2022; OECD, 2020). The COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted the sector, leading to mobility restrictions and closures (Chowdhury and Jomo, 2020). However, it also presented opportunities for innovation (Price et al., 2022). The economic impact on Portugal's GDP was significant, with T&T's contribution dropping from 17.1% in 2019 to 8.7% in 2020 and recovering in subsequent years (WTTC, 2022). Given the Algarve's dependence on tourism, this study highlights the need for new strategies to overcome challenges (EURES, 2022). This research aims to analyse how Algarve's (South of Portugal) hospitality (hotels and restaurants) employers and employees perceived the Portuguese government's measures to address the COVID-19 crisis via a Three-Way Data Analysis multivariate statistical procedure, namely the COSTATIS method, which can be considered a more advanced or specialized version of STATIS, offering more flexibility and refinement in handling complex data relationships. The statistical procedure supports the assessment of 27 varieties of perceptions of the pandemic crisis that were collected from respondents distributed in four hospitality professional categories (restaurant and hotel managers and employees). The conclusions identify that association with a professional category in the hospitality industry tends to affect ideas regarding the potential for coping and resilience associated with organizational challenges. Members of the diverse professional categories think of the crisis in different ways due to their status and hierarchic position in business organisations. More attention should be given to what those professionals with lower status have to say about the organisational climate in the event of future crises.
- Holisticscape dimensions of the tourism experience in wellness spas: Evidence from PortugalPublication . Valente Pedro, Cristina; de Matos, Nelson Manuel da Silva; Pinto, PatríciaThe present study examines how tourists’ experiences in wellness spas promote holistic health through the Holisticscape framework from both tourists’ and other stakeholders’ perspectives, an extension of the servicescape that encompasses the ambience, social, activity, body, mind, and spirit dimensions. An ex-ploratory, multi-stakeholder qualitative design was employed, with 20 in-depth interviews conducted inwellness spas in Portugal. Thematic analysis revealed that ambience, social relations, activity, body, mind, and spiritual stimuli support tourists’ holistic health. These findings extend existing research on servicescape and experiencescape by demonstrating how multidimensional experiential stimuli interact to produce holistic health in wellness spa settings. The study offers practical implications for designing immersive and health-oriented environments, enhancing service customisation, and integrating cultural and natural resources intowellness spa offerings. Given its exploratory and context-bound nature, it is recommended that further research be conducted to validate Holisticscape dimensions across a range of wellness spas at distinct destinations. Furthermore, the development of measurement tools for future quantitative investigations is recommended.
- Horsing around: Animals, humans, sports, and platformsPublication . Fernandes, AdalbertoThe Tokyo 2020 Olympics Pentathlon incident, where German athlete Annika Schleu lost control of the horse Saint Boy, led to the termination of the show-jumping event and exposed the unstable relationships and definitions established between human and more-than-human actors. Analyzing comments on the three most-viewed YouTube videos on this case through Actor-Network Theory, we examine how responsibility is distributed between the two actors involved. Our findings indicate that riding is inherently relational and cannot be entirely dominated by a single agent. No ideal interaction point guarantees control, challenging human sovereignty over the more-thanhuman. Commentators place Schleu in an ambiguous position: she failed to control the more-thanhuman and, consequently, can no longer be treated humanely. This case reveals that distinctions between the human and the more-than-human are locally negotiated. Disruptions in these distinctions expose an enduring anthropocentric perspective, where failure to control the morethan-human disqualifies humans as fully human. The more-than-human thus emerges as a meta-normative guarantor, determining whether those who succeed or fail in control are granted human treatment.
- How do spectator-to-spectator negative interactions lead to a less memorable and recommended sport tourism experience through internal attention and involvement?Publication . Martins, Rute; Monteiro, Patrícia; Campos, Ana Cláudia; Sthapit, Erose; Mascarenhas, MargaridaPurpose – On-site tourist experience co-creation enhances memorability, and the latter precedes tourists’ intention to revisit and recommend the experience/destination to others. However, tourists’ interaction is not always perceived as positive, co-destroying experience value. This study aims to examine the influence of experience value co-destruction on sport tourists’ future behavioral intentions, considering the mediating effects of internal attention, involvement and memorability. Design/methodology/approach – Data were gathered from 254 non-resident spectators at Tudor Nazare´ Tow Surfing Challenge event in Portugal. Findings – The results showed that value co-destruction during a sport tourism experience negatively influences spectators’ internal attention and involvement, which further impacts their memorability and behavioral intentions. Practical implications – Sport event managers should minimize and reverse negative sport tourists’ interactions to enhance the spectators’ attention and involvement in the experience. In addition, to boost the memorability and behavioral intentions, spectators’ involvement should be prioritized through leveraging sport culture and event-generated liminality. Originality/value – This study expanded the research lens of co-destruction of tourist experience value by integrating cognitive psychology and behavioral outcomes, validating the on-site tourist experience co-creation model to co-destruction and extending it to behavioral intentions.
