Smart manufacturing refers to incorporation of state-of-the-art technolo-gies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and data analytics in the various stages of manufacturing process with the aim of automating the whole process. The chapter provides a brief overview of smart manufacturing, its evolution, key enabling technologies and benefits. It also provides an overview of the key concepts covered by various chapters of the book.
