Para além da imagem habitualmente associada ao Algarve, caracterizada por praias de areia dourada e paisagens costeiras deslumbrantes, existe uma realidade menos conhecida mas igualmente fascinante, a paisagem rural. Nela se encontra um rico património hidráulico que representa não só a evidência tangível de um passado que está a desaparecer gradualmente, mas também uma fonte de conhecimento, ligada à gestão de recursos que nem sempre são abundantes, como por exemplo a água.
Esta dissertação, realizada no âmbito do projeto INCULTUM (Visiting the margins: INnovative CULtural ToUrisM in European peripheries), tem como objetivo estudar o património hidráulico tradicional do Algarve. Para a realização deste trabalho, foi identificada uma área de estudo, localizada a oeste da cidade de Faro, na zona conhecida como Campina de Faro.
Esta investigação combina diferentes abordagens, como a revisão bibliográfica e cartográfica e o trabalho de campo. Através destes métodos, foi possível, em primeiro lugar, efetuar uma caraterização da área de estudo, na qual se identificaram os elementos que podem ser considerados parte do património hidráulico tradicional algarvio; a seguir, estes métodos permitiram a realização de um estudo de pormenor sobre três casos significativos, identificados entre os sistemas de regadio.
Esta dissertação não só confere uma visibilidade renovada à riqueza do património hidráulico algarvio, mas também contribui com novos conhecimentos sobre a importância histórica e cultural que estes elementos desempenham no seu contexto.
Beyond the image generally associated with the Algarve, characterised by golden sandy beaches and stunning coastal landscapes, there is a lesser known but equally fascinating reality: the rural landscape. Within this area lies a valuable hydraulic heritage, which is not only tangible evidence of a past that is gradually disappearing, but also a source of knowledge relating to the management of resources that are not always abundant, such as water. This dissertation, carried out as part of the INCULTUM project (Visiting the margins: INnovative CULtural ToUrisM in European peripheries), aims to study the traditional hydraulic heritage of the Algarve. A study area situated in the west of Faro, within the area known as Campina de Faro, has been identified to carry out this work. This study combines different approaches, such as bibliographic and cartographic review and fieldwork. These methods enabled, firstly, a characterisation of the study area and the identification of the elements that can be considered part of the Algarve's traditional hydraulic heritage. Subsequently, a detailed study was carried out of three significant cases identified among the irrigation systems. This dissertation not only gives renewed visibility to the richness of the Algarve's hydraulic heritage, but also provides new insights into the historical and cultural importance that these elements play in their context.
