Abstract(s)
This study focuses on leadership and the school and organizational climate in a school grouping. The aim is to find out the perception of the school group's professionals (teachers and non-teaching staff) regarding the organizational climate and its relationship with variables associated with the safety climate, attitudes towards work and the institution and the perception of their performance as employees, with reference to the actions of top and middle management. Leadership, school culture and the organizational climate are key to the educational process. The leader/principal given responsibilities on behalf of the state. To this end, legislation has changed the autonomy of schools, management, and administration, through Decree-Law no. 115-A/98 and Decree-Law 75/2008, in which the centralization of power in decision-making by the figure of the principal comes into force. We present a case study conducted in a school grouping in the Algarve. The study was based on the report “Organizational Climate and Professional Satisfaction 2020”, conducted by the Evaluation and Quality Office of the University of the Algarve, under the scientific and technical coordination of Gabriela Gonçalves and Joana Vieira dos Santos. The study was of a mixed quantitative and qualitative nature and involved the institution's professionals (teachers and non-teaching staff), using a questionnaire distributed digitally via institutional e-mail and physically to non-teaching staff who do not use e-mail. The data collection instrument was an adaptation of the questionnaire used in the UALG study. A total of 245 teachers and 134 non-teaching staff were surveyed (the total population surveyed), with 69 teachers responding (12 of whom said they did not wish to take part in the study), 57 of whom were valid, and 33 non-teaching staff and one senior technician, making 91 valid respondents for the study. The results show that there are different perceptions between teachers and non-teachers, despite the significant overall positive perception in all areas of their professional performance, on the part of both groups of employees at the School Grouping.
