O fenómeno do envelhecimento da população é uma realidade inegável do mundo contemporâneo, pelo que urgem propostas e estratégias de intervenção na área da gerontologia social. A presente dissertação visa, sobretudo, a interseção entre duas vertentes conceptuais - o Teatro e o Envelhecimento Ativo/Criativo. Quisemos indagar a relação entre as mesmas, no intuito de compreender os benefícios da atividade teatral em aspetos relacionados com a saúde e, consequentemente, o seu contributo para a promoção de um envelhecimento positivo. A abordagem segue o paradigma qualitativo, tendo sido o projeto desenhado como um estudo de caso. O nosso estudo de caso incidiu no Grupo de Teatro Sénior de Silves e revela algumas das potencialidades da prática teatral nos idosos. Os resultados indicam sete principais contributos do teatro no processo de envelhecimento ativo: Participação; Saúde Mental; Socialização; Cooperação; Envolvimento Pessoal e Compromisso com a Vida; Valorização e Reconhecimento; Superação.
The phenomenon of population ageing is an undeniable reality of the contemporary world, it therefore urges for proposals and intervention strategies in social gerontology. This work aims, mainly, the intersection between two conceptual fields - the Theatre and the Active/Creative Ageing. We wanted to investigate the relationship between them, in order to understand the benefits of acting in regards to health aspects and therefore its contribution to the promotion of a positive ageing. The approach follows the qualitative paradigm, the project was designed to be a case study. Our case study was focused on the Senior Theatre Group of Silves and it reveals some of the potentials of theatre practice within the elderly. The results indicate seven main contributions of theatre in the ageing process: Participation; Mental Health; Socialization; Cooperation; Personal Involvement and Commitment to Life; Appreciation and Acknowledgement; Overcoming.
