Abstract(s)
A presente investigação intitulada “O contributo das TIC para um envelhecimento bem-sucedido” insere-se no âmbito do Mestrado em Ciências da Educação, da Universidade do Algarve. Este trabalho de investigação tem como objetivo principal compreender de que forma a utilização das tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC) contribui para um envelhecimento bem-sucedido. Procura-se, deste modo, compreender e analisar o processo de aprendizagem dos adultos mais velhos no que respeita às TIC; conhecer a importância das TIC na vida dos adultos mais velhos; identificar e analisar as causas que levam os adultos mais velhos à exclusão digital; e, ainda, identificar as estratégias utilizadas para ultrapassar as dificuldades tecnológicas. No que concerne à estratégia metodológica, a presente investigação baseia-se numa abordagem qualitativa. Para alcançar os objetivos, recorremos às seguintes técnicas de recolha de informação: a observação direta, o diário de campo, a entrevista e, por último, a análise documental. Estas técnicas possibilitaram uma análise mais aprofundada do contributo das TIC nos adultos mais velhos. Os resultados evidenciam uma forte motivação dos adultos no que respeita a uma educação ao longo da vida como uma forma de ter independência na velhice, tendo em conta o rápido avanço tecnológico, que é uma ferramenta que pode ajudá-los a alcançar esse objetivo. Através da análise dos resultados obtidos, podemos concluir que as TIC desempenham um papel importante na vida dos adultos mais velhos, por exemplo na comunicação com os filhos ou familiares que residem noutros países, em atividades de autoaprendizagem, informações relativamente aos acontecimentos do mundo, o acesso a consultas médicas, fazer o pagamento do IRS. As TIC destacam-se também como ferramentas essenciais para promover um envelhecimento bem-sucedido, potenciando a qualidade de vida e a inclusão social das pessoas mais velhas.
The present research entitled “The Contribution of ICT to Successful Ageing” is part of the Master’s programme in Educational Sciences at the University of Algarve. The main objective of this research is to understand how the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) contributes to successful ageing. Thus, it seeks to understand and analyse the learning process of older adults regarding ICT; to understand the importance of ICT in the lives of older adults; to identify and analyse the causes that lead older adults to digital exclusion; and to identify and analyse the strategies used to overcome technological difficulties. Regarding the methodological strategy, this research is based on a qualitative approach. To achieve the objectives, we employed the following data collection techniques: direct observation, field notes, interviews, and document analysis. These techniques allowed for a deeper analysis of the contribution of ICT to older adults. The results show a strong motivation among older adults for lifelong education as a means to achieve independence in old age, considering the rapid technological advancement, which is a tool that can help them to achieve their goals. Through the analysis of the obtained results, we can conclude that ICT plays an important role in the lives of older adults. For instance, ICT facilitates communication with children or relatives living in other countries, supports self-learning activities, keeps them informed about global events, provides access to medical consultations, and enables the payment of taxes (IRS). Furthermore, ICT stands out as an essential tool for promoting successful ageing by enhancing the quality of life and social inclusion of older individuals.
