Abstract(s)
Several studies show that human beings use different mechanisms to cope with anxiety about death, particularly when mortality is more prominent. The individual believes in his/her eternity through valuable aspects (material, intellectual, children, etc.) that will continue to exist after death; these aspects are extensions of oneself, and several perspectives and theories are based on the importance that work has for the individual. The present research aims to: 1) analyse the psychometric characteristics of the Threat Buffer Inventory; 2) assess, using the Theory of Terror Management inventory, to what extent anxiety about death predicts passion for work. The study focuses on anxiety about death, as well as on Terror Management Theory and harmonious and obsessive passion for work moderated by centrality. The sample consists of 326 individuals, of which 67.9% are female and 32.1% are male, with an average age of 39.16 years. Centrality moderates harmonious and obsessive passion at work, and that the model developed referring to the inventory of the Theory of Terror Management is more adjustable than the original. The inventory adapted to the Portuguese population showed good internal consistency values in all factors. In summary, the study allows for a better understanding of human behaviour by providing insights into the motivations and emotions that influence people's behaviour in the work co.
