Abstract(s)
Young adults are a risk group for suicidal ideation and behavior, which is often associated with negative life events. Dating violence is a phenomenon whose impact has been reported, identifying multiple psychological consequences, such as suicidal ideation. Although the literature indicates the existence of a direct relationship between dating violence and suicidal ideation, the study of indirect relationships is still scarce. In this sense, this study sought to analyze the relationship between victimization by violence in dating relationships and suicidal ideation in young adult women and the potential mediation and moderation relationships existing in the relationship between victimization by dating violence and suicidal ideation. Participated in the study 136 young adults, female, with a mean age of 24.8 (SD = 3.17) years. Participants completed sociodemographic measures, assessment of anxiety, depressive symptomatology, emotion regulation, suicidal ideation and conflict resolution tactics experienced in dating relationships. Data collection was carried out through an online platform. The sample revealed a high prevalence of victimization by violence in dating relationships (75.7%) and 15.4% of the participants had higher levels of suicidal ideation. Young adults with a history of victimization and psychopathology had significantly higher levels of anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties and suicidal ideation. Positive and significant correlations were found between victimization and suicidal ideation, as well as between psychological aggression and suicidal ideation. Furthermore, the mediation and moderation analyzes revealed that the relationship between victimization and suicidal ideation is mediated by emotional regulation and moderated by anxiety and depressive symptoms. The results found in this study corroborate the need to continue investing in efforts to prevent dating violence and suicide and the possibility of implementing strategies that integrate the phenomena, in order to expand the effectiveness of preventive actions.
