Abstract(s)
Family is one of the main influences on the vocational development of children and adolescents, in which context are many variables involved, namely socioeconomic status, ethnic origin, family configuration, parent-child interaction patterns, verbal encouragement provided by parents, among others. Overall the support provided by parents and significant others is associated with positive career outcomes, namely in career exploration involvement and in career decisiveness. However, although we may be dealing with a sufficiently established relationship in vocational literature, there is only a few studies that analyse if there are differences between father support and mother support, and analyse how parents influence each other in aim to the support they think they provide to their children regarding to career tasks. In this sense, we aim to expand the knowledge about the predictor effect of the father-mother dyad concerning to parental support for career issues, and also explore if father support is associated with mother support. In this way, we also intend to contribute to the design of career interventions that address parental involvement in career issues.
