Abstract(s)
Contudo, as pesquisas
escassas.
The relevance of studying the client's perspective is increasingly recognized as a mean of comprehending how psychotherapy works and how it validates therapeutic models. Change through the Model for the Treatment of Affect Phobia (APT) occurs when clients learn to recognize and communicate their emotions – a fundamental factor for a good mental health. However, research on the mechanisms involved in the change process of this therapy is still very scarce. To clarify this, we intend to identify the client's perspective on their process of change by the APT. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews were carried out with eight clients, who had completed the therapeutic process. The analysis of the interviews was carried out through a qualitative approach, based on Thematic Analysis, using the nVivo software. Two themes, 10 categories and 14 subcategories were identified. In general, is observed that the participants attribute their process of change to gains in comprehension, expression, and balance of their emotions. Throughout the process important aspects were mentioned, such as therapeutic proximity and the experience of emotional release. The results are consistent with previous qualitative studies, and studies on the APT. The main results are discussed based on the current literature on the process of change in psychotherapy through the perspective of clients.
