Abstract(s)
The increase in the average life expectancy leads to an urgency in the promotion of the quality of life for the elderly. Skin aging is part of the regular physiological process of human beings, with structural and functional changes occurring due to extrinsic and intrinsic factors, which consequently contributes to an increase in the prevalence of multiple skin pathologies. The skin, as such asn important organ of our body, it is essential to promote its integrity. Therefore, it is necessary to promote strategies that contributes to the skin cleaning and hydration, as well as to the control or treatment of skin-related pathologies that may occur. This dissertation aims to develop a dermatological care manual for the elderly, "Older skin care", which can be used by the elderly or their informal caregivers, aiming to contribute to an improvement in the skin care provided in this advanced stage of life. Therefore, a bibliographic research was performed to support the theoretical introduction and finally write the proposed manual. There is not much information accessible to elderlies consumers that allows them to carry out adequate cleaning and hydration care, although the available literature is extensive. Thereby, it was possible to carry out a manual aimed especially at this age group and informal caregivers, which allows them to improve their knowledge about the available products and help in choosing them for each situation.
