Resumo(s)

Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) belongs to a family of peptides that show sequence conservation and include glucagon, secretin, glucose-dependent insulin-releasing peptide, growth hormone-releasing factor, peptide having N-terminal histidine and C-terminal isoleucine (PHI) and the reptilian peptides helodermin and the helospectins (TABLE 1). VIP and related peptides have been isolated from several species of teleost and they show a degree of sequence conservation similar to that found within mammalian peptides.
