Abstract(s)
This master's thesis focuses on the perceptions and experiences of formal caregivers about their role in home care services for children with specific needs. The interest and purpose for this research lies in the extreme importance of the role of formal caregivers in supporting the activities of daily living of children with specific needs, and also in the fact that this role is sometimes undervalued and forgotten by our society. The general objective is to identify and analyze the factors that influence the practice of formal caregivers in home care services. To explore the role of formal caregivers, this study was based on a fundamentally qualitative methodology of phenomenological research, using semi-structured interviews as a data collection tool and its the respective content analysis. Based on a quantitative methodology, it also intended to add some quantitative data by using a questionnaire to support results. The questionnaires were applied to 8 formal caregivers (N = 8), aged between 30 and over 50 years old. In a second phase of the study, two formal caregivers were selected to respond to semi-structured interviews. The results indicated that the formal caregivers felt lack of support from those responsible for the SAD, and pointed out the lack of appropriate training to perform the services they perform as the biggest problem in their daily lives, as well as the biggest factor of dissatisfaction. It is hoped that this research will contribute to the participants' feeling that they will make important contributions that may bridge the information gap regarding the role of a formal caregiver in a home care setting with children with specific needs, valuing their role as professionals, but also as human beings who daily seek to improve the quality of life of these children.
