Abstract(s)
The Session Evaluation Questionnaire (SEQ) was designed by William B. Stiles (1980) to evaluate the impact of sessions (depth and smoothness) and post-session mood (positivity and arousal). Through the evaluation of the sessions it was intended to learn about how they were associated, for example, with techniques used by therapists or with the results obtained in therapy. The experience of clients with drug use disorders in therapy has been studied using almost exclusively qualitative methodologies. The use of instruments such as the SEQ would allow to deepen the knowledge about the process and therapeutic results in the population with substance use disorders. Thus, the present study aims to study the psychometric characteristics of the Session Evaluation Questionnaire in the population with substance use disorders. The sample consisted of 113 adults and adolescents (25.8 years of age (SD = 10.74) residents of three therapeutic communities. In addition to the SEQ, the participants also answered the sociodemographic and history of consumption and treatment questionnaire, Working Alliance Inventory – Short Revised (WAI-SR) and OQ-10. A Factorial Confirmatory Analysis (FCA) was performed to verify the adjustment of the indexes of the two sections of the SEQ. One-way ANOVAs were used to analyse the mean differences between WAI-SR, OQ-10, Bad-Good item, and therapist characteristics according to the type of session and type of post- session. In respect of the results of the confirmatory factorial analysis (CFA), the first section of the SEQ, concerning the evaluation of the session, showed better indexes adjustment to the model (Stiles et al., 1994) than the second section of the questionnaire, related to Humor post-session. Regarding the results of the one-way ANOVAS, the depth and smoothness dimensions were positively related to the characteristics of the therapist, and the positivity and arousal dimensions were significantly related to the characteristics of the therapist and to the objectives and tasks factors of the WAI-SR.
