Abstract(s)
The Covid-19 pandemic is the greatest health emergency in recent history, bringing significant implications in the healthcare sector and a profound humanitarian, social, and economic impact. The ability to control the epidemic through effective contact tracing, widespread application of laboratory diagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2, active and early detection of cases, and strict isolation of cases and their contacts, are key elements to limit the spread of COVID-19. With the increasing number of cases observed during certain periods, difficulties have arisen in tracking infections and halting transmission chains, as well as in responding to all the challenges and problems that emerged during the pandemic, related to SARS-CoV-2 testing. The main objective of this work was to identify the problems and challenges encountered in the planning the SARS-CoV-2 testing at ARS Algarve, which can be used to improve planning and response in future similar occurrences. using a qualitative analysis of data collected from nineteen (19) semi-structured interviews with a panel of experts/specialists, responsible for various roles within the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, IP and other experts involved to SARS-CoV-2 testing.
