Abstract(s)
A metodologia envolveu aprendizagem colaborativa e uso intensivo do software QGIS.
The teaching of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be planned to convey not only the fundamental principles of spatial analysis, but also promote critical and creative thinking, develop problem-solving skills and encourage teamwork. Based on this starting point we developed a project-based pedagogical activity (PBL) focused on the topic of coastal erosion in the context of the bachelor’s de gree in marine and Coastal Management (GMC) at the University of Algarve. The pedagogical activity was carried out with 28 first-year GMC students. The students analyzed the evolution of the Portuguese coastline between 2010 and 2023, comparing it with the rates of evolution between 1958 and 2010 published in a scientific paper. The methodology involved collaborative learning and in tensive use of QGIS software. The results indicate a positive reaction from stu dents to the activity, highlighting the increased understanding of coastal erosion in Portugal and the importance of the technical skills acquired for their training path. It is recommended that PBL activities with GIS carefully select the topics and try to bring the themes closer to the students' reality. These approaches can be applied in different scientific domains, promoting inter-disciplinarity and preparing students for a dynamic job market in which lifelong learning is essen ial.
