In an attempt to advance the cognitive cartography of the wine “field”, this thesis provides an overview of studies, research and experiences that mark the movement of reconfiguration of the aforementioned “field”, including the characteristics of its foothills, namely social innovation, dynamic capabilities and organizational performance, defining as the central objective of this academic incursion the analysis of the implications of new forms of social innovation on organizational performance, experienced in the wine sector in Portugal. The thesis subsidizes the understanding of the respective constructs, having been able to observe the transformations that have taken place in the order of processes and in the innovation interrelated with other chains, in the partnerships and reconfigurations leading not only to the well-being of the local populations of insertion in the wine world, but also in an expansion of frontiers. The most significant impacts focus on individual, organizational and regional performance, adding economic-financial, social and environmental values, evidenced, above all, in large and small companies. The underlying result of this social change is evidenced through collective human satisfaction, the construction of more cohesive social relations and a basic socio-political awareness. In the analyses, in addition to the segmentation of practices detailed throughout the thesis, two very specific aspects of this chain stood out, namely the relevance of government financial support, as elements of induction and viability of a large part of the innovations and a governance associated with the predominance of excessive bureaucracy, as striking aspects of the contemporary hybridity of a new rural environment that induces transformations in the wine sector, which, in turn, is also a co-author of operational transformations in the dynamics of local life, in the communities where it is located.
