Abstract(s)
The present study had as main purpose to explore the correlations of sexual coercion with socio-cognitive dimensions of the behavior of the Portuguese society. The study used a sample of the general population in a total of 95 adults, of which 47 were males and 45 females. For this purpose, we used 5 different scales to analyze attitudes towards sexual coercion and some scripts, such as the beliefs. Our main results suggest that, as expected, men show higher scores than women in all variables, as well as in perpetuation behavior. Regarding the attitude towards sexual coercion, results shows that sexual double standard and beliefs towards sexual violence may be determinant to the attitude. However, there is not any specific contribution of the variables in study for that attitude. We also found that only few attitude dimensions explain the victimization and perpetuation behaviors. Furthermore, one of those dimensions negatively explain those same behaviors. This way was not possible to confirm that the more favorable attitude towards sexual coercion is, the more probability exists to be victim or perpetuator.
