Abstract(s)
Background: Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is described as a very frequent disorder in children and adolescents, which has a high impact in several domains of life. It is essential to identify SA predictors, at pre-school ages, to implement appropriate intervention strategies. In this context, the main objective of our study was to understand how variables of parental influence and variables of the child are related to the levels of social anxiety of the child, considering the sexual gender, both children and parents. Methodology: In this study, data were collected from parents of 316 children aged 2 to 6 years, and the variables related to the parents were evaluated through the questionnaires: (AMBI) - Adult Measure of Behavioral Inhibition; (POM) - Parental Overprotection Measure; (AESDIS) - Anxiety and Avoidance Scale in Situations of Performance and Social Interaction. Regarding the variables of the children, were evaluated through the questionnaires: (PAS) - Pre-school Anxiety Scale; (BIQ) - Behavioral Inhibition Questionnaire. Results and Discussion: The main results revealed a relationship between the Inhibited Temperament and the SA of the child. Also, revealed that the SA of the Mother influences the SA of the children, regardless of sex, but the SA of the father does not. Overprotection arises as a mediating variable between parents and children; however, this relationship depends on the gender of the child and the parents. The results are discussed considering the current literature on the study of the relationship of parental factors in the development of SA.
