| dc.description.abstract | Neste trabalho analisamos a pesca no Algarve medieval durante os séculos XII, XIII, XIV e XV, ou seja, desde o século da formação de Portugal em que o Algarve era ainda o Gharb al-Andaluz, até ao reinado de D Manuel I, entrando assim pelo século XVI. Partindo de documentação e de relatos coevos, as chamadas fontes, e de bibliografia, artigos e teses publicados, tentamos compreender como seria esse Algarve de então, o contexto regional e como se praticava a atividade piscatória, onde e com que métodos e “artes” se trabalhava. Quais as espécies capturáveis e quais as mais importantes ao longo do período; onde estariam as comunidades localizadas pelo litoral e, quais os maiores e mais significativos portos de pesca; a comercialização, como se processava; e, como seriam a construção naval e as embarcações utilizadas. Tentamos igualmente compreender e demonstrar a importância da pesca e da indústria da salga no território mais meridional do reino de Portugal. Colateralmente, não deixámos de abordar a temática dos impostos; a importância, o papel e alguma atividade do Infante D. Henrique, como homem da pesca no Algarve medieval; e ainda a questão da religiosidade e das Confrarias ou Irmandades e dos Compromissos Marítimos. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation analyses fishing activity in Medieval Algarve during the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, since Muslim period in the Algarve until the reign of King Manuel, the first. We researched and studied contemporaries sources, other historical documents, bibliography, thesis and published papers, trying to understand how the Algarve would be like at that time, where and which methods and crafts were used, which species could be captured and which were the most important by that time; also where was the location of the communities along the shore and which were the most important and significant fishing ports; the trading practices and how it was processed and, final, what shipbuilding and vessels looked like. Also tried to understand and demonstrate the importance of fishing activity and salt industry in the southernmost of the Portuguese Kingdom, territory Collaterally, we approached questions as the taxes upon fishing labor, religiosity, professional brotherhoods, the Compromissos Marítimos and the relevant role of Prince Henry the Navigator in the 15th century, regarding the subject of our study. | pt_PT |
