Abstract(s)
Interpersonal attraction is a field of study within psychology that seeks to understand the functioning of relationships formation and the dynamics of interpersonal connections. To date, research in this area suggests that factors such as similarity in ideals, physical proximity and the consistency of interactions may be considered key predictors of attraction and its success. It is understood that attraction is a multifactorial construct; however, few studies have focused on a non-behavioral approach to its predictors. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between the presence or absence of attraction based on the perception of similarities derived from limited information in profiles categorized within the Circumplex of Interpersonal Values; aiming to understand whether an individual`s personality type can be considered a predictor of attraction. The sample for this study comprised 128 participants, all of whom were 18 years of age or older and fluent in Portuguese. The participants responded to an online questionnaire consisting of two parts, which sought to categorize their personality within the Circumplex of Interpersonal Values and subsequently measure the degree of attraction experienced toward profiles that simulated each of the circumplex profiles. The results indicated that similarity, or the absence thereof, with at least three personality profiles may serve as predictors of interpersonal attraction, thus confirming that attraction is a multifactorial construct not solely defined by behavioral factors.
